   One should be able to find various sizes and strengths of plastic
coated wire cables through fishing suppliers such as Cabelas. I usually
keep a 20 lb. size and a 60 lb. size on hand. A quick web search gave me
Anglerswarehouse.com which is located at Montauk, and the Fishing
Cybermall which has links to all sorts of suppliers. The other two
sources of supply you should know about in general are Small Parts
(WWW.smallparts.com) which has more weird little parts than you ever
thought you'd need, and the Thomas Register which is the directory of
manufacturers nationwide, and through which you can find virtually
anything available in the industrial realm. In addition to the cable,
you will also need the sleeves that go with the specific sized cable.
These are tightly crimped with pliers to connect the cable instead of
using knots.

>Do you know a supplier of the plastic coated stainless steel wire,
preferably on the East Coast? Thank you for this bit of information
about
monofilament and degrading to the point of breakage.
