Dear Museum-Listers,

Our WebMaster wonders what procedures you use to access and count the
numbers of requests received by your server for your pages.

For the past five years or so we have been getting information from
the ISP that hosts our Web site. This information is collected from
the web server's access logs and is partly formatted by a program on
the server. From this information we have been able to remove
information about requests for images leaving only the requests for
specific pages of information. We then sort these so that we can get
the numbers of requests each week per page.

However, since we adopted our own domain name several months ago this
service is no longer available and so we have recently only been able
to record the grand total of "hits' (text page plus image requests).
This grand total of hits has been varying from 15,000 to 75,000 per
week in the last six months.

We are a very small center and our site does not showcase a
collection or even our exhibits. To get an idea of how we use the Web
you might like to take a look at;
