Curator of Collections

Salary range: $29,668 - $35,000  
Minimum qualifications:  BA degree with three years museum registration experience required. Knowledge of environmental hazards and controls.  Must have knowledge of computer collections database catalog systems and word processing skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as working as a team member with other Museum staff. Ability to use a computer and other necessary equipment.  Capable of moderate carrying, lifting (10-20 pounds)
Preferred qualifications:  MA degree in Anthropology, Art, History, Natural History, Museum Studies, or Folklife. Content knowledge of material culture in the American Southeast desired; experience or interest in natural science collections useful. 

Job duties:
	Responsible for the direction, development, use, and registration process of McKissick Museum's object collections. 
	Supervises the care, monitoring, and conservation of objects; maintains all collection records, statistics, and registration; supervises inventory; organizes and supervises the receiving and loan process for Museum collections; administers the deposit, recording, loan, and storage of all objects accepted for inclusion in the permanent Museum and University collections; has considerable authority in making independent decisions about collections and security.  
	Organizes and supervises pertinent research and applications of the collections; directs areas of collections growth relevant to the Museum, College, and University’s mission. 
	Teaches in the Museum Management program; develops course content, instructional materials, assignments, syllabi; works with interns and graduate assistants. 
	Coordinates exhibitions drawing upon the collections and relevant materials from outside the Museum. 
	Works with Museum advisory council and other volunteers, including annual fundraising event; assists guest and faculty curators, and researchers. 
	Serves on the disaster/security committee and helps set relevant policy; presents training sessions or other programs as assigned. 
	Formulates, prepares, and submits funding requests/grant proposals for exhibitions and relevant projects to federal agencies, private foundations, businesses or corporations. 
	Some travel, as well as occasional weekend and evening hours, may be required.
