Leaded: The Materiality and Metamorphosis of Graphite opened at the Joel and
Lila Harnett Museum of Art at the University of Richmond Museums, Virginia,
on August 23rd launching its national tour. This exhibition features work by 16
international contemporary artists who utilize the physical nature and visual
characteristics of graphite and pencils as content in their work. The artists
have extrapolated qualities unique to graphite (a silvery richness, an endless
range of tonality) or to pencils (a ubiquitous writing and drawing tool, a mass-
produced product) to create art that is wholly dependent upon the medium.
These works allow us to look at graphite in a new way and to appreciate its
appeal and aesthetic versatility.

The two-year tour includes Western Washington University Gallery,
Bellingham; Memorial Art Gallery, University of Rochester, NY; Palmer Museum
of Art, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park. Only two venue
dates remaining.

Available:
For 8-week booking periods; late-June 2008 – August 2008; November 2008 –
December 2008
