The Smithsonian Institution, National Air and Space Museum is advertising
for an Explainer Program Coordinator to recruit and hire high school and
college students to carry out all aspects of the Explainer Program.
Explainers perform science demonstrations and educational interpretations
in the Museum's How Things Fly gallery and provide additional public
programs for the Museum's visitors.  The Coordinator trains new Explainers
and recommends changes in the established training program to better
accomplish training goals; supervises, evaluates, and recommends
disciplinary actions for the Explainers; administers the program budget and
keeps records of all program expenses; plans and develops new programs and
demonstrations for the Explainers; develops outreach programs; and writes
grant proposals to obtain funds for new programs.  Applicants must have
skill in working with youth and youth programs; skill in developing
interpretive education programs for use in a museum, historical site,
science center, education center, or other similar venue; and knowledge of
physical science.
