A question was asked about why someone was automatically removed from the list
and I thought it would be a good idea to address this issue and the issue of
bounced mail messages in general.

The Listserv software monitors error messages. When there are errors from an
address for 5 consecutive days or 100 error messages total then the subscriber
is dropped from the list automatically. I personally like this feature because
I get one e-mail message for some of the problems each day instead of a flood
of error messages.

With more than 1700 subscribers now I still get a flood of error messages. The
two most common error messages are that the subscriber has a full mailbox or
that the system serving the subscriber is either down or unreachable for 3
days. In either case I usually switch the subscription option to digest instead
of regular mail. With the number of messages posted to the list, two or three
down sites can generate up to 300 error messages a day.

When the digests start bouncing then I will remove the person from the list.

Managing the list comes has lots of good days and a few really bad days. No one
is removed without a reason, and when you do find yourself bumped from the
list it may be a good idea to check with your local site administrator and try
to get some extra disk space or find out why e-mail to your site is being
rejected and generating error messages.
