Florescent light is very flat and floods the entire case and the UV filters
are not always as effective as manufactures would like you to believe.
Halogen is far more directional , allowing you to highlight more the object
in the case than the entire case. With lighting outside the case you still
have the concern of heat build up inside which draws in dust and other
contaminents as the case cools when everyone leaves at the end of the day.
Tough choices, is it a permanent installation?

How about using fluorescent tubes with UV sleeves? Its low heat, low cost,
bright white light and with the UV sleeves, there should be no harm done.
Just remember that the UV sleeves are essential.
