Thomas & Associates, Inc., is pleased to announce our representation of the
Detroit Institute of Arts in their search for three major curatorial

CURATOR & HEAD OF THE AMERICAN ART DEPARTMENT
The Curator/Head will oversee a department of four with an associate and
assistant curator plus an executive secretary. The ideal candidate must
possess a dynamic, visionary outlook with demonstrated excellence in
scholarship, publication and the generating of significant exhibitions. The
Curator/Head will also be responsible for enriching the collection through
judiciously selected acquisitions and to actively direct and cultivate a
substantial group of collectors and supporters. The Curator/Head will also
be engaged in the reinstallation and interpretation of the DIA's American
Art Collection as part of the museum's permanent collection reinstallation
program (est. time of completion: late 2006). Applicants with a Ph.D. in
American art history or American studies are greatly preferred. Substantial
museum experience, excellent interpersonal skills and excellent written and
verbal communication skills are essential. Salary commensurate with
experience. The successful candidate must be a City of Detroit resident
within three months from date of hire.

CURATOR AND HEAD OF THE CONTEMPORARY ART DEPARTMENT
The ideal candidate must possess a dynamic, visionary outlook with a strong
focus on contemporary and emerging trends and the generating of significant
exhibitions that reflect the trends and issues that define contemporary art.
The Curator/Head will also be responsible for enriching the collection
through judiciously selected acquisitions and will cultivate and direct a
substantial group of collectors and supporters based around the DIA's oldest
auxiliary, the Friends of Modern Art. The Curator/Head will also be engaged
in the reinstallation and interpretation of the DIA's Contemporary Art
Collection as part of the museum's permanent collection reinstallation
program (est. time of completion: late 2006).  Applicants with a Ph.D. are
greatly preferred. Substantial museum experience, excellent interpersonal
skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

CURATOR OF ISLAMIC ART & DEPARTMENT HEAD OF MIDDLE EASTERN,
ISLAMIC AND ASIAN ART
The primary responsibilities of the position entail overseeing the
Institute's distinguished collection of Islamic art and to supervise
curatorial sections overseeing the East Asian and ancient Near Eastern
collections.  The Curator/Departmental Head will be responsible for
researching, publishing and exhibiting the collection of Islamic art, as
well as enriching the collection through judiciously selected acquisitions
and generating significant exhibitions.  The Curator/Departmental Head will
also be engaged in the reinstallation and interpretation of the DIA's Middle
Eastern, Islamic and Asian art collections as part of the museum's permanent
collection reinstallation program (est. time of completion: late 2006).
Candidates should be specialists in Islamic art, speak Arabic and have
substantial museum experience.  Applicants with a Ph.D. are greatly
preferred. Substantial museum experience, excellent interpersonal skills and
excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.  Salary
commensurate with experience. The successful candidate must be a City of
Detroit resident within three months from date of hire.
