I wouldn't exactly consider Sturbridge and Hancock "on the way up". Well
Sturbridge, maybe, if the drive up goes through Hartford, but Hancock is in
the western part of Massachusetts (the Cape is all the way to the east) and
someone would have to go out of their way to stop en route. Not that it
isn't worth a detour and there *are* other places out in the Berkshires
(the Rockwell museum, Chesterwood, Tanglewood spring to mind).

Anita: If you want to go an hour or so north of Boston, the Peabody Essex
Museum in Salem is one of my favorites. About an hour north-west is
another favorite place -- Lowell National Park. More on your route, though
I haven't visited them, are the New Bedford Whaling Museum and Heritage
Plantation (in Sandwich). While not quite a museum/historic site, the
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute might be worth considering as well.

Have a great trip!
