"Native American Land Ownership and Transfer
in Seventeenth-Century Massachusetts"
Lecture at the Massachusetts Archives

Secretary of the Commonwealth William Francis Galvin announced today the
December talk in the Massachusetts Archives and Commonwealth Museum's fall
lecture series will be "Native American Land Ownership and Transfer in
Seventeenth-Century Massachusetts," presented by Dr. Christopher Hannon.
The lecture will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2001, at
the Massachusetts Archives building on Columbia Point in Dorchester (220
Morrissey Boulevard, Boston, MA 02125).

Chris Hannon is an assistant professor of history at Massachusetts Maritime
Academy. He received his Ph.D. in colonial American history from Boston
College. His presentation is the result of extensive research in the
records of the Massachusetts Archives.

Real property ownership and transfer was the focus of Anglo-Indian
relationships in seventeenth-century Massachusetts. The evolution of
ownership and transfer during the century lends important clues to the
complex Anglo-Indian relationship. Chris will share insights from his study
of deeds and other land records.

The program is free and open to the public. Parking is free, and the
building is handicapped accessible. For additional information or a
brochure listing future lectures call 617-727-2816 or see our website at
