<<I would like to know how well thought of a British MA in archeology is in the US? I have recently completed an archaeology MA at the University of Liverpool, and have several years experience working as curator/education officer at a Roman museum in Chester. However, I am finding it very hard to move up the career ladder. Any ideas?

We think of them very highly.

The snag is the work permit. IF you don't have one or have a relative over here to bring you over, forget it. The field over here is incredibly glutted and unless you specialise in a very narrow area that no one else here in the US has, your chances of finding a job and getting a work permit are about nil.

Museums don't usually have a career ladder unless you get into a huge institution like the Smithsonian. To move up, you usually have to change museums and work your way up that way. People get the jobs they have and sit on them because they know there are few out there.

Good luck!!
