Chief Curator
Milwaukee Art Museum

Thomas & Associates, Inc., is pleased to announce our representation of the
Milwaukee Art Museum in their search for a Chief Curator. We invite
applications for this important position at one of the nation’s major art
museums.

The Milwaukee Art Museum’s profile has been hugely enhanced by a dramatic
new Calatrava-designed expansion. The Museum is now looking for a Chief
Curator to expand its fine collection and mount exhilarating and significant
exhibitions. Ranging from antiquity to the present, the collection is
especially strong in European art from the Renaissance, 19th and 20th
Century American and European art (particularly German), American decorative
arts and contemporary art. It also has a fine and growing collection of
Haitian art and of European and American folk and self-taught art.

The ideal candidate must possess a dynamic, visionary outlook that builds
upon the strengths of the Museum’s permanent collection, with a preferred
focus being on American Modernist art, 1880—1950. The Curator will also be
responsible for enriching the collection through judiciously selected
acquisitions and will cultivate and direct a substantial group of collectors
and supporters. The Curator will head a team of 25 curatorial staff,
including registrar’s office, conservation, library and exhibition
installation. The Curator will be a member of the senior management team
and report to the Director and CEO.

Substantial museum experience, excellent interpersonal skills and excellent
written and verbal communication skills are essential. The successful
applicant will have the ability to develop and encourage talent and be an
experienced museum administrator.
