Bill, one of my favourite - or should it be favorite? - definitions
was, I think, by Thomas Carlyle, who described curators as:
 
     "those industrious persons who rescue somewhat
               from the deluge of time."
 
Should our personal motto, or mission statement as we now call it,
be "apres moi le deluge" ?
 
For our respected US colleagues, I would add that one of the best
descriptions of the good that can be brought to a person's life by a
museum is found in the pages of J D Salinger's "Catcher in the Rye".
But I'm sure that they all know that.Regards,
