Current Issues in Exhibitions Seminar
July 6-8, 2000
Washington, DC


REGISTRATION: $350 AAM member, $400 non-member

OVERVIEW
This 2-day program provides time for renewal and inspiration for seasoned
professionals in search of new ideas and understanding about critical issues
impacting exhibitions. Through peer exchange, facilitated small group
discussions, and talks by invited speakers from a wide range of disciplines,
the Current Issues in Exhibitions Seminar is designed to go beyond "nuts and
bolts" questions about techniques or content to expand our thinking and move
the profession beyond such boundaries. Sessions will be held at The World
Bank, 1818 H Street, NW, Washington, DC. The program begins with
registration at 12:00 noon on Thursday and ends at 5:00 p.m., followed by a
reception at the World Bank from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  Friday sessions begin at
9:00 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m.  On Saturday, sessions begin at 9:00 a.m. and
end at 1:00 p.m.

John Jacobsen, President, White Oak Associates, Inc.
                Topic: Creating a new framework for thinking about museum
planning, with a particular focus on changing museum exhibits and programs.
Jennifer Jarratt, Senior Vice President, Coates and Jarratt, Inc., and
Author of The Future at Work (Jossey Bass, 1993) and What Futurists Believe
(World Future Society, 1989.)
                Topic: Broad trends and forces shaping change in the world
and in the decades ahead.
Juan Logan, Artist, Chapel Hill, NC.
        Topic: Creating environments.
Todd Siler, Ph.D., Artist, Author of Think Like a Genius: The Ultimate
User's Manual for Your Brain (Bantam Books, 1997) and Breaking the Mind
Barrier (Simon and Schuster, 1990) and Founder, Psi-Phi Communications,
Denver, CO.
        Topic: Creating new visions.
Robert Sullivan, Associate Director for Public Programs, Smithsonian
National Museum of Natural History.
        Topic: Creating interactivity.


DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP
The AAM Diversity Coalition Scholarship Fund is pleased to offer two
scholarships to attend the Current Issues in Exhibitions Seminar. The
scholarship will be awarded to full-time, paid museum professionals from
diverse backgrounds and includes seminar registration plus a stipend not to
exceed $350 per person to help defray travel and lodging costs only.  You
must fill out an application form, which is available on the Web at
www.aam-us.org, under Professional Education Programs. Applications are due
Wednesday, June 14 at 5:00 p.m. EST.

Discount rates are available at two hotels within easy walking distance of
The World Bank. The Hotel Lombardy, located at 2019 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW,
is offering a rate of $119 a night, single/double occupancy. To reserve,

weekday rates range from $86-$139 depending upon the size of the room. If
you are arriving on Friday and departing by Monday, weekend rates are
