Deb, as always, raises some good points, especially as many employers no
longer have the common courtesy to advise candidates that they have been
unsuccessful. Yes, I CAN understand that, when you get some hundreds of
applications for a job, this causes a certain administrative load. However,
I have noticed that the institutions that don't bother to send such notices
tend to be the same ones that normally treat their employees like dirt - and
these are the ones you DON'T want to work for in any case.
