I was reading some of my mail in a much-less used
account, and the following was in a Daily Trivia
newsletter. Since it talks about the hula hoop that
was brought up in our conversation about 50s toys, I
thought some might find it of interest:

When was the hula hoop invented?
Believe it or not, the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and
Romans gyrated with hoops made of grapevines. The
modern plastic hula hoop was developed in the 1950s
and sold by the Wham-O Manufacturing Company. It
became an instant hit.
