Network Administrator


The mission of The Tech Museum of Innovation is to serve as an educational
resource that engages people of all ages and backgrounds in exploring and
experiencing technologies affecting their lives, and to inspire young
people to become innovators in developing technologies of the future. 

The Engineering Department of The Tech Museum of Innovation is seeking a
Network Administrator with a variety of technical skills and experience to
support engineering operations and development. The Network Administrator
is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Network & Exhibit Engineer.


RESPONSIBILITIES: 
· Perform various Unix and Windows NT system administration tasks including
but not limited to physical setup, disk format, OS and patch installation,
and software installation.
· Install and configure networking equipment in data center, wiring
closets, and remote offices.
· Connect client devices to network and audio/video on a routine basis;
establish procedures and provide training to Engineering staff.
· Test and monitor systems to ensure compliance with network security
policies.
· Monitor network and exhibit management systems, respond to alarms as
appropriate.
· Assist with ongoing integration of voice/data/video infrastructure
throughout the enterprise. 
· Assist with the development of engineering standards, museum intranet and
automated exhibit maintenance infrastructure.
· Establish and maintain electronic documentation systems for network
equipment, structured cabling system, and audio/video infrastructure.
· Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: 
· 5+ years Unix system administration experience on Sun, SGI, HP, and Linux
operating systems including installation from distribution media, disk
maintenance, backup/restore, and basic shell or Perl scripting.
· Demonstrated PC/workstation hardware setup and troubleshooting skills.
· Practical experience with network hardware including routers, switches,
terminal servers, CSU/DSUs, modems, firewalls, cabling, etc.
· Practical experience with TCP/IP networks and protocols including SMTP,
DNS, NIS, DHCP, NNTP, HTTP, NFS, and SNMP; ability to recite Internet RFCs
on command is a plus.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills, self-discipline and
organization.
· Ability to meet deadlines and multitask among several projects in an
ambitious engineering team.
· Familiarity with Web site authoring and Java/C/C++ programming is a plus.
· Experience with audio/video equipment and production is a plus.
