Vanda,
It depends on what you expect from a definition (or the mind behind) if you
call it narrow or precise. Terms are tools, and one of the advantages of
definitions is that they help to avoid misunderstandings.(I believe it is
better to know that a train leaves at 0419 pm instead of round about
teatime). Of course, terms and their meanings have to be checked, and
definitions have to be discussed, as I well know ICOM's (and I suppose AAM's
as well) has been in great length and detail only a couple of years ago. As,
on top of that, there are anyway other valid terms available for
institutions which exhibit without collecting I cannot see why they should
not be used.
(I entered this conversation only later. Thus I would be grateful if you
sometime
told me the original question off line. Thanks).
Fritz
