Full Time Receptionist/Gallery Assistant

The Drawing Center seeks a highly organized and articulate individual
for the position of receptionist. The receptionist serves as the
primary contact to the public, including both visitors and callers. The
receptionist is responsible for managing sales and inventory of The
Drawing Center's exhibition catalogues, assisting with special events
and programs, and providing administrative support for gallery
activities.

Background: The Drawing Center is the only not-for-profit institution
in the country to focus on the exhibition of drawings, both contemporary
and historic. Located in SoHo, The Drawing Center was established in
1977 to provide opportunities for emerging and under-recognized artists;
to demonstrate the significance and diversity of drawings throughout
history; and to stimulate public dialogue on issues of art and culture.
Over the past twenty-three years, The Drawing Center has presented the
work of over 1,800 emerging artists in Selections exhibitions, and has
served over 40,000 artists through the Viewing Program. Master
drawings, including those of Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Guercino, Picasso,
Redon, and Hugo, have been featured in historical and special
exhibitions. In addition to its programs and services for emerging
artists, The Drawing Center serves more than 3,500 New York City
students annually through its Schools Program. The Drawing Center is
governed by a Board of Directors, and has a professional staff of
fourteen.

Requirements: The receptionist must be a responsible, articulate, and
well-mannered individual with previous professional experience involving
interaction with the general public and/or clients. The successful
candidate will be highly organized, have the capacity to coordinate
multiple tasks, and will possess a friendly, professional demeanor.
Previous museum or gallery experience is desired.

The person in this position should expect to work Tuesday through Friday
(9:45 am - 6 pm) and Saturday (10:45 am - 6 pm), including some evening
events. Salary: $20,000, with benefits. The position is currently
open and will be filled as soon as the right candidate is found. Please
fax, mail, or email resume and letter to the following:
