Most, if not all, states have a state museum association.  Back in my
hometown (Chicago) there is also the Curator's Roundtable.  They are a bit
hard to track down and promote themselves mainly by word of mouth, but still
a good support group.  There is also NEIL which is an organization of
historical societies in Northeastern Illinois.  The North Side Historical
Alliance consists of small neighborhood historical societies in Chicago.  On
a somewhat different tangent is the Chicago Area Archivists for those doing
archive work in the museum field.

I have been told that in Nashville there is a group called ICON, but really
don't know anything about them.  There is/was a "First Thursday" luncheon
where the city's cultural community gathers.
