Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan, US opened in 1929. It is called
an "indoor/outdoor museum" today. I can't tell you, however, when that term
first was used.

What is meant by "open-air"? The indoor/outdoor museums I know involve
historic buildings that visitors can enter, outdoor spaces between the
buildings, and often costumed interpreters providing context.
