*****************BASIC EXHIBIT PREPARATION******************

Exhibiting books, manuscripts, and other library and archival materials
can place stress on your collections. When items are displayed under
harsh conditions with inadequate support they may be damaged. This one
day class covers general lighting guidelines, display strategies, and
the creation of non-adhesive, non-destructive supports. The lecture
focuses on why good preparation is important, the tools and materials
needed to create supports, strategies to reduce stress on exhibit
materials, and security concerns.

Hands-on activities include:
* Constructing two book cradles
* Learning strapping techniques
* Encapsulating documents
* Working with window mats and mounting corners
* Utilizing a strap-and-board set 

Intended Auduience:
This workshop is designed for staff members who are responsible for
creating and mounting exhibits in their institutions. Basic hand-skills
(measuring, cutting, folding) and comfort using sharp tools are
required.

When & Where:
Friday, May 13 at Duke University in Durham, NC, 9am - 4pm

Cost:  
$170 for SOLINET members, $210 for non-members.  Early-bird discounts
and late fees may apply.  Any registrant within the host state qualifies
for the member rate.
