A couple of questions (what else - I'm a conservator, after all). Is the oil something that was factory-applied, or was it applied by staff? If factory, can you tell where it is coming from? Has something obviously ruptured? Does it appear to be internal, or simply on the surface? If staff-applied, how frequently was it done? What has changed recently that caused this problem to start now? Perhaps nothing, but maybe you have a new maintenance technician that is being a bit too zealous? How large and heavy are the drawers?
