Kathy,
There are several churches in the Midwest being used as museums and another
in the process of being converted. The Fayette County Historical Society in
Vandalia (Illinois' second capital city) is housed in a 19th century
Presbyterian Church. Naper Settlement in Naperville, Illinois, has moved an
early Episcopal Church onto their property, and it is now part of their
village. It is treated as an artifact with its lovely stenciling and Gothic
Revival architecture, but there are occasionally weddings held there as
well. Benzie County Historical Society in Benzonia, Michigan, is in the
town's original Congregational Church. And the city of Joliet, Illinois, is
currently restoring a massive downtown church (complete with Tiffany window)
for use as a local history museum.
