If you are looking simply for a database approach with static images, an
alternative is a CD Portfolio which can hold many more images than a
typical CD and has the advantage of being able to add audio if you want.
It can also be programmed to branch or respond to user choices through
either a remote control (computer not necessary) or computer (mouse, touch
screen, etc.). The initial digitizing of images is time consuming but the
programming is relatively simple- I use something called Arrange It which
mixes audio with text/graphic screens.

For simple retreival of images, I find it more reliable than computerized
database although it is much less powerful and flexible- ie user can't do
any searches other than what you have programmed through menus.
