The Marketing and Public Relations Institute for Museums and Cultural
Organizations was created in 1996 to provide quality specialized training for
museum professionals with a particular emphasis on the needs of small and
mid-sized museums, historic houses and sites, art centers, science centers,
and museums with living collections.

This intensive, 3 1/2-day institute combines theoretical information with
real life examples and hands-on activities designed to hone the skills of
museum professionals responsible for attracting new audiences, communicating
with existing audiences, delivering visitor services, establishing
partnerships with external organizations and increasing earned and
contributed income.

The in-depth presentations at the Institute will include:
    * Developing Your Insitution's Marketing Plan
    * Techniques of Marketing Research
    * Cultural Tourism
    * Advertising and PR
    * Corporate Sponsorships
    * Visitor Services
    * Membership

The Institute's faculty features nationally recognized museum marketing and
public relations professionals Mary Kay Ingenthron, President of MK
Communications, Kansas City; Don Adams, Director of Marketing and Visitor
Services at the Automobile Hall of Fame, Dearborn, MI; and Tamara Real,
Principal, Get Real! Communictions, Ann Arbor, MI.  These seasoned
practitioners have worked as staff and consultants with some of the finest
museums in this country, among them Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield, the Adler
Planetarium, The Museum of Modern Art, NYC; The Adirondack Museum, the
Springfield Library and Museum Association, and the Hawaii Museum
Association.

The Institute fee is $325/person and includes all presentations and an
information-packed workbook. Accommodations are available campus residence
halls and local hotels at a special Institute rate.
