My facility houses the state of Maryland's archaeological collections. The
collections are housed in 4 mil polyethylene ziplock bags. Currently, we
are labeling the provenience information on the outside of the bag with the
"nasty" Sharpie markers. We have yet to find a suitable archival
alternative. We even tried sticking acid-free foil backed labels with the
provenience information laser printed on them, but these failed to stand up
to the "extremes" tests conducted by our lead conservator (i.e. alternating
high/low temperature, high/low RH). The labels began to peel and we easily
removed. Has anyone else had similar problems? Has anyone found an
archival black marker/pen that adequately writes on plastic?

Thanks.
