John F. Kennedy University will offer a continuing/extended education course
in Museum Studies in the summer of 2000 entitled, "Museum Exhibition and
Design: Debunking the 'Poof' Theory," taught by Darcie Fohrman at the Tech
Museum of Innovation in San Jose, CA.

Course description: Museum exhibitions seem to just appear like magic. Poof!
A new exhibit opens and museum visitors experience objects and ideas in an
environment that may transport and transform them. This course will take
participants behind the scenes into the complex, collaborative and creative
process of planning and designing interpretive museum exhibitions.
Participants will meet at the Tech Museum of Innovation and have the
opportunity to hear from exhibition developers and designers, critique
existing exhibits and plan a hypothetical exhibition.

Instructor: Darcie Fohrman brings over 25 years of experience to her work as
an exhibition developers and designer. As principal of Darcie Fohrman
Associates, she has worked with museums across the country to interpret
their objects and ideas, and coordinate the planning, design and
installation of their exhibitions. Prior to founding her consultancy, she
served as the director of exhibitions and graphics at both the San Diego
Museum of Art and the Spertus Museum of Judaica in Chicago. She has been an
instructor of art history and exhibition development design at Santa
Catalina School and JFKU.

The course (worth 10 credit hours) will meet on two consecutive Saturdays,
June 3 and 10, 11 am - 4:30 pm. Course #XMUJ101. The cost is $100.
