Assistant Cataloger

The Japanese American National Museum is a new model for American museums dedicated to
transforming lives and strengthening community through the exploration of diverse histories, arts and
culture. The National Museum seeks an Assistant Cataloger for the Hirasaki National Resource Center &
Collections Unit.
RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Assistant Cataloger will undertake the integrated cataloging of the National
Museum's diverse holdings of bibliographic and non-bibliographic materials (videorecordings,
soundrecordings, etc.) in compliance with national standards and local guidelines. Cataloging efforts will
initially focus on the National Museum's diverse and extensive holdings in the Hirasaki National Resource
Center. Maintain authority control and resolve cataloging problems.
QUALIFICATIONS: Masters in Information and Library Studies from an ALA accredited institution, plus
one year experience in related field required. Knowledge of and experience with AACR2r, LCSH, and LC
Classification. Ability to multi-task and prioritize, work in a team environment, have excellent
organizational skills and be detail oriented. Familiarity with Questor ARGUS and reading knowledge of
