POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

CURATOR AT MOUNT VERNON
George Washington's Estate and Gardens

The Mount Vernon Ladies' Association is seeking a candidate who will
work with other colleagues in investigating and implementing new methods
of conserving and protecting the current collection; enhancing
significantly the collection through gifts and loans; and utilizing the
specific objects in the collection to enhance Mount Vernon's
interpretive and education programs.  The Curator is also responsible
for the care, enhancement and effective use of the Mount Vernon
collection in the Mansion, museum, outbuildings and other locations,
both on and off the Mount Vernon estate.  This individual will supervise
the regular cleaning and maintenance of the collections.  The incumbent
will develop concepts for new interpretive exhibits and displays, will
represent the Association at meetings, conferences and other events
where prospective donors are present and will work to develop specific
gift and loan agreements.

Qualifications include an advanced degree in a subject matter related to
collections and the decorative arts and experience in a field related to
historic homes or museums.  Excellent writing, speaking and public
relations skills and a willingness and desire to participate in
aggressive efforts to enhance the collection through gifts, loans and
financial support.
