Like so many things, it depends on your point of view. I would tend
more toward the Photographic Tools and Equipment if the bottles and
boxes themselves were labeled as containing photographic toner or
developer. But you would not necessarily be wrong if you classified them
as Chemical Tools and Equipment, Merchandising Tools and Equipment or
even Container (under Distribution and Transportation Artifacts). As I
said, it depends on where you want to place the emphasis--on the
containers, the chemicals within, or their intended use.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Classification question

I have a question for colleagues who use Chenhall's Nomenclature:

Where would you classify bottles and boxes which contained chemicals
used by a photographer e.g. toner, developer etc.?
CHEMICAL T&E (Category 5: T&E for science and technology) ? Or
PHOTOGRAPHIC T&E (Category 6: T&E for communication) ?

Would you use the classification MERCHANDISING T&E for objects such as
these?

Thanks.
