>Position Announcement
>
>The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the University of Kansas, 
Lawrence campus, is seeking a candidate for a full-time Associate or 
Full Professor position and Director of the Indigenous Nations Studies 
Program  The Director has primary responsibility for all aspects of the 
M.A. program focused on Indigenous Peoples worldwide 
(http://indigenous.ku.edu). This is a unique program with a global 
focus.   The successful candidate will be appointed in the Indigenous 
Nations Studies Program with the possibility of a joint appointment in 
another academic unit.  We invite applications from specialists in all 
fields whose scholarship relates to the program focus.    The 
successful candidate for the position should be eligible to work in the 
U. S. prior to the start date of the position.

>The program focuses on the traditions, diversities, mechanisms for 
cultural survival, and aspirations for self-determination of Indigenous 
Peoples globally.  The program is committed to the empowerment of 
Indigenous Peoples and their communities through the rigorous study of 
the complex problems and issues that face Indigenous cultures.    
>
>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:	
>1.	Oversee, in concert with the faculty, short- and long-range planning 
for the program in the areas of teaching, research, and service.
>2.	Provide leadership for faculty and students in all program 
activities; administer program resources, including budgets and 
teaching; and effectively communicate with the Dean of the College and 
other administrators. 
>3.	Supervise and evaluate faculty and staff, and oversee the graduate 
degree program.
>4.	Develop and enhance affiliations for research and educational 
opportunities internally at the University of Kansas as well as 
externally through local, national, and international affiliations.  
>5.	Promote globally focused scholarship and teaching concerning 
Indigenous Peoples and communities.
>6.	Teach courses and publish scholarship in areas related to Indigenous 
Nations Studies.
>7.	Participate in service activities of the Indigenous Nations Studies 
Program, the College, the University, and the profession. 
>8.	Implement College and University policies at the program level.  
>
>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
>1.	Earned Ph.D. or terminal degree.   
>2.	Established program of Indigenous-related research with the promise 
of continued productivity as evidenced by CV and letters of reference.
>3.	Experience in teaching and a commitment to teaching excellence as 
evidenced by CV.
>4.	Broad understanding of the issues affecting Indigenous Peoples as 
evidenced by candidate's statement for a globally focused Indigenous 
Nations Studies program. 
>5.	Ability to lead an interdisciplinary unit as well as develop and 
enhance research and educational relationships among faculty and 
between the program and its allied units as evidenced by letter of 
application.  
>6.	Commitment to attracting funding from public and private sources and 
to developing new funding opportunities for the program as evidenced by 
letter of application.  
>7.	Eligible for a tenured appointment in the College of Liberal Arts 
and Sciences.  
>
>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
>1.	Demonstrated administrative experience.
>2.	Ability to create and implement innovative areas of study in the 
program.
>3.	Experience working with or providing services for Indigenous 
communities.  
>4.	Success in obtaining external funding.    
>
>SALARY:  
>Academic year salary commensurate with qualifications and experience 
plus two bi-weekly pay periods of summer salary.  Exempt, regular 
appointment subject to review and re-appointment.
>
