ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT I

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums, seeks an Administrative Assistant to work in our Department of Information Systems and Technology (IS&T).  The Administrative Assistant is responsible for all administrative duties in addition to daily backup telephone coverage for the Help Desk. The Assistant will provide administrative support for the entire IS&T Department, including scheduling rooms, distributing mail, meeting and escorting visitors and organizing Department-wide meetings. Other duties include answering the telephone and directing calls to the appropriate persons; scheduling appointments; coordinating travel itineraries; ordering office supplies; processing requests for payment, travel and expense reports, help desk reports, etc.; and serving as backup to the Help Desk and the IS&T Executive Assistant as needed.
 
Successful candidates will possess administrative experience in a busy office environment, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Candidates will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and possess the ability to solve problems creatively and with multiple tasks.  This position is an entry-level position into the field of information technology and opportunities to gain experience in database design, intranet design, and technical training may be possible, time permitting. University Degree is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer is also required; knowledge of other software and of Personal Digital Assistants (e.g., Palm Pilots) preferred.
