JOB OPENING FOR A BILINGUAL ART GALLERY ASSISTANT, CHEN ART GALLERY
Full Time Position
 
Chen Art Gallery has an immediate opening for a Bilingual Art Gallery Assistant. We are looking for an individual who can work well with others, can take direction, who is a self starter, and who isn’t afraid of rolling up their sleeves to get the work done, and who likes working with the public and educating them about art. Bilingual in English and Mandarin is required. 

ABOUT THE CHEN ART GALLERY:

The Chen Art Gallery (www.chenartgallery.org) located at Sunrider International in Torrance, California (in Los Angeles County) is home to one of the most important collections of Chinese art in private hands outside of Asia. The collection includes Qing and Ming dynasty furniture, imperial porcelains, Buddhist statues, ancient pottery, and burial bronzes from the first dynasties of China. The collection also includes non-Chinese art works and fine art prints from the 20th century and earlier. 

POSITION SUMMARY:    

This position is under the direction of the Museum Manager and the Museum Coordinator. The individual in this position will assist museum staff in leading tours in English and Chinese of the galleries to the public; assist with installing new exhibits; handle, transport, and pack fragile art objects; digitally photograph art objects for documentation; and assist with various office duties as needed.  

JOB DUTIES will include:

•	Tour Guide: Leading tours of the art galleries for the public in both English and Chinese. Taking phone calls from the public and scheduling tours. 
•	Art Handling: Lifting, handling, packing, and transporting art work and crates that are fragile and sometimes heavy. 
•	Exhibitions: assist with putting art work on display, writing labels and signs in English and Chinese, changing light fixtures, etc. 
•	Collections Management: assist with digital photography of art work, condition reports, monitoring art work in storage while implementing safe storage techniques, and inventory. 
•	Office Administration: general office duties of ordering supplies, tracking spending, filing, etc.
•	Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

•	Bachelor’s degree in Art, Art History, Museum Studies or related field. Master’s degree and knowledge of Chinese art and history are highly desirable. 
•	Experience working in a museum, art gallery, or auction house preferred.
•	Fluent in English and Mandarin (read, write, and speak). 
•	Physical ability to lift heavy objects, move carts, and ability to stand for long periods when giving tours. Prefer ability to lift up to 25 lbs. 
•	Ability to work with computers, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Photoshop, and digital photography is highly desired.
