The one thing I haven't really seen in this discussion
is that your resume doesn't tell your prospective
employer your life history, it tells what you can do
for him.

Face it, in the days of an electronic job market,
where there are hundreds--if not thousands--of
applicants for many jobs, it's the resume that stands
out that gets referred. A resume that looks like all
the others and is a simple data sheet gets filed with
the rest of the data. One that draws the eye of the
reader to things they wish to have in an employee may
well serve an applicant far better than, veni, vidi,
vinci.

A well-crafted resume with white space, bullets that
draw the reader to the salient points, and bold face
used for key phrases may do more in four pages than
two pages of crammed together blah, blah, blah.

Want to make it fewer pages? What about back-to-back
pages? Again, lots of white space, headers repeated
so they know the name of the candidate AND the
position for which you are applying, and plenty of
bullets.

Remember, you've got three to seven seconds, on
average, to make it through a screener.

I've screened resumes a couple of times in my life.
The ones that got through are the ones who told me
what they could do for me rather than what they did
for somebody else. Don't forget to use words that
include traits as well as skills.

Just my thought on the thread.
