I am seeking ideas and sources of information about potential public funding to stabilize an historic structure on our grounds. We are a privately funded non-profit arboretum in Illinois. Our mission involves the collection, interpretation, and display of woody plants but we are fortunate to own and care for an historic bridge and part of the original roadway of a state highway that has been realigned. This is all on our property and is no longer owned by the state.

We are looking for public funding to help us stabilize and interpret the bridge. We have already been in discussions with our SHPO (State Historic Preservation Officer). I'm really asking for referrals to sources that are less obvious.

Have any of you received federal or state highway funding for bridge stabilization? Do any of you know of projects that fund bridges sited on farm or ranch land? How about historic building funds used for bridges or other transportation artifacts?

Thanks,

Diane Gutenkauf
