INVITATION
Pursuant to the General Laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including
without
limitation, M.G.L c. 30B, the Town of Hingham (the"Town") seeks proposals
from
qualified consultants to produce a comprehensive master plan for the
historical
collections held by the Town of Hingham's participating departments and
agencies. The
participating departments and agencies are: the Hingham Historical Society
(HHS), the
Hingham Public Library (HPL), the Town Clerk's Office (TCO), the Hingham
School
Department (HSD), and the Hingham Historical Commission (HHC). The project
scope
shall include the production of a prioritized, multi-year master plan for
the cataloging and
preservation of the historical manuscripts, monographs and photographic
collections held
by the Project's participating institutions. The master plan solicited
through this RFP will
guide the participants' decisions relative to making such documents
accessible to the
public by creating appropriate finding aids, addressing preservation
problems, and taking
measures to improve preservation storage conditions. As a prelude to the
master planning
work each participating institution has undertaken a qualified Preservation
Survey. The
Preservation Surveys provide specific recommendations for the
preservation/conservation
of collections and the maintenance of appropriate physical environments to
support the
survival of the collections over time. These studies will be furnished to
the successful
proposer upon or shortly after engagement and the Preservation Surveys'
findings dated
February 2 through 5, 2009 must be integrated with a Final Report [the
Master Plan].
Specific tasks involved in preparing a Final Report may include but should
not be limited.

Interested and qualified applicants should contact Joan Allen at the Hingham
Public Library's Business office, Hingham Public Library, 66 Leavitt St.,
Hingham, MA 02043, 781-741-1405.
