How about this. Rather than think of the CD-ROM as a permanent
medium of storage, after all such a thing does not really exist, think
of it as reasonably secure medium to contain digital information.
The digital material can be used directly from the CD or as time goes on
be transferred to another medium.
At the Museum of Civilization thousands of images are being trasferred to
to the Kodak system as a storage device for use, if necessary in other
modes of delivery.
