The Crate Itself: Proven Design Techniques and Alternative Ideas

Presented by PACIN (Packing nad Crate Information Network)

1996 AAM Pre-conference Workshop, Minneapolis MN
Friday 3 May 1996, 2:00-5:00 p.m., Minneapolis Hilton

This half-day workshop will address the function and design of the
packing crate and proven techniques for safe transport of objects.
Recent workshops and seminars have focused on the importance of the
interior packing system. This workshop will explore the necessity of
and requirements for the exterior crate that houses the interior
packing. Panelists will talk about proven designs for 2-D and 3-D
objects in the use of the conventional wooden crate, single shipment
slat crates, and new alternative materials currently being researched
and used. Material strength and durability, waterproofing, insulation,
closure systems, handling hardware, and design for ease and safety
during transport will also be discussed. Open to all AAM delegates.

A supplemental handbook will be given to each delegate attending the
workshop. This will contain an essay by each panelist, technical
information and drawings to support their theories and designs,
drawings of proven designs, as well as various technical and reference
information and a materials distributors list.
