                         THE WALTERS ART GALLERY
 
 
The Walters Art Gallery, a world-renowned art museum with collections
ranging from the ancient world through the early twentieth century, is
seeking a Registrar to maintain all records and systems relating to the
museum's collection of ca. 30,000 objects.
 
Responsibilities include the management of temporary exhibitions,
national and international loans and traveling exhibitions, as well as
the monitoring of the permanent collection, insurance, storage,
inventory, and related aspects of collection management.  Familiarity
with computerized collections management systems is essential.  Person
will plan and implement automation of collection records.  Reports to
Assistant Director for Curatorial Affairs and helps to develop and
enforce policies and procedures pertaining to collections management.
Advises the administration and curatorial staff on the legal aspects of
donations, acquisitions, loans, and the disposal of objects.  Supervises
a department of four (two assistant registrars and two museum
technicians).  Strong interpersonal, organizational and writing skills
necessary, as well as knowledge of computer and database management.
 
Candidates must have a M.A. in Art History or Museum Studies.  Ability
to read major European languages.  Three years of registrarial
experience, with at least one year in a supervisory capacity, desirable.
The position is available in September 1995.
