Heather, I once had Metal Edge make custom sized acid free drop-front boxes
for part of a collection. They were no more expensive that the wrong-sized
boxes offered in the catalogs. The contact is 1-800-862-2228, and web site
is www.metaledgeinc.com.

I think most of the suppliers will create custom-sized boxes for you. I even
fewer than you described, and they were very accommodating for what I
thought was a small order. For something like plaster masks, I would
definitely get the sturdier corrugated box material. They come die-cut and
ready to snap together.

Also if you can get some standard boxes slightly oversized, you can carve
Ethafoam or cut built-up layers of Volara closed-cell foam to fit each
wrapped mask on all sides as an insert.

Good luck!

Subject: Finding Storage Box for Odd Shaped Object

In our collection, we have approximately 35 plaster death masks. I would
like to box these masks individually. I have looked through all the usual
archival supply cataloges (Gaylord, University Products, Light
Impressions) and have not found a box suitable for the size of the mask/s.
Everything is either just too small or way too big. I ordered a box from
Gaylord measuring 5 1/2H x 12 1/8W x 7 7/16D and it is too small in both
height and depth. Please email me with any suggestions about how I might
storage these or find boxes to fit them.

Thank you,
