Not the exact answer you were looking for -- but I can tell you the biggest
waste of money I spent on technology. When initially setting up my web site
I wanted someting very robust and reliable so I ordered a dedicated server
with ample RAM, etc for about $600/month plus set up fees. As I
experimented with it and talked to other people I realized a $50 month
shared server system was more than adequate, so I switched but lost the
initial payments. As my needs have grown since then I have been able to
scale up incrementally as my traffic/technology demands have grown. So my
advice with respect to web technology is start cheap and scale carefully as
needed.

Subject: Techno question

While working on our technology plan, my fellow committee members and I
have often wondered what kinds of technology other museums are using, both
big and small, so here's our 10 million dollar question: What has been
the most important piece of technology (be it hardware, software,
information technology, exhibit technology, etc) adopted by your museum in
the last year? Last five years?

Any kind of response would be helpful as we try to prioritize our museum's
needs.

Thanks
