Thomas L. Purvis cites on page 195 of the "Revolutionary America 1763-1800" volume of the Almanacs of American Life series the following statistics of infant mortality from 1760-1800 in Philadelphia:

1760-64	173 deaths/1,000 births
1765-69	118 deaths/1,000 births
1770-74	109 deaths/1,000 births
1780-1800	187 deaths/1,000 births

I don't know if there is a volume in this series that covers 1800-1830.

Hope this helps!

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Infant Mortality in 1800's Philadelphia

Hello,

Could anybody give me an idea of what the infant mortality rate was in the
1800's in Philadelphi? Specifically prior to the 1830's but any
statistical information would suffice. And if anybody has the rates of
infant abandonment for that time period and location as well that would be
great.

Thanks in advance,

Anna
