Collections Manager

Position available (20 hours/week) for a Collections Manager at the
University of Maryland School of Nursing, Baltimore, to assist in the
opening of an exhibition on its history in November 1999, and provide
collections care for the school's nursing textiles, objects, photographs,
and archival material  (approximately 750 objects and textiles, 2,000
photographs and 14 linear feet of archival material).  The Collections
Manager will

· Work directly with the historian and director of the Project and a team
of consultants, including the designer and conservators, to ensure the
safe display of artifacts in the exhibition
 
· Provide support for curatorial research
 
· Complete a plan for the rotation of artifacts during
the course of the exhibition, which will remain open for 10 years 

· Accession new donations

· Create catalogue records for artifacts

· Maintain computerized database of artifacts in the collections

· Develop policy as needed for long-term collections care

Successful candidates will have a firm grasp of museum registrarial
methods, collections care standards, a working knowledge of relational
database software (preferably Filemaker Pro), be flexible, and work well
in a team setting.
