Cheryl...

We used to have the plexis on Velcro...what a mess. Once they start to get old, they're impossible. They "give" with weather, and we actually had them - on a number of occasions - fall OUT of the windows!

We have gone to some uv filtering window shades. Had them for about 3 years now, and I cannot recall the name of the company that made them. They work just like a regular shade. We're satisfied with them - have had no problems. The only negative is that, because of the depth of our windows (replacement windows in a restored 18c house), they are installed at a depth which does not permit us to close top shutters. It's not a horrendous problem - since we don't keep t hem closed anyway - but does preclude closing when we need dark for presentations in our large parlor.

I believe our curator-at-the-time found the company on line. Again, it's been a while, company name is out of my brain. I could hopefully dig it up if you need it. We're satisfied with them, have had no problems.

Subject: Alternative to UV Filtering Plexi?

All,
We are looking at replacing the UV filtering plexiglass in our historic house
museum.  Currently, we have plexi panels attached to the frame around the window
with Velcro strips.  My supervisor would like me to consider installing a
hanging film/thin sheets from the backs of venetian blinds rather than have
plexi panels attached to the woodwork around the window.  Does anyone have
experience with films used like that, also any preferred sources?  Please let me
know your thoughts, the pros and cons, etc.  Thanks much. --Cheryl
