(1) Fellowship in Caricature and Cartoon Offered

Deadline: February 15, 2002

The Caroline and Erwin Swann Foundation for Caricature
and Cartoon, currently located in the Library of
Congress( http://www.loc.gov/ ), is accepting
applications for its graduate fellowship. The Swann
Foundation awards one fellowship (with a stipend of
15,000) annually to support continuing scholarly
research and writing in the field of caricature and
cartoon.

To be eligible, an applicant must be a candidate or an
M.A. or Ph.D. degree in a university in the United
States, Canada, or Mexico, and either be working
toward the completion of a dissertation or thesis for
that degree or engaged in postgraduate research within
three years of receiving his or her M.A. or Ph.D.
Although research must be in the field of caricature
and cartoon, there is no limitation regarding the
place or time period covered. There is also no
restriction on which university department might
oversee a project proposed for the fellowship,
provided the subject pertains to caricature or cartoon
art.

Library of Congress.

(4) History Channel Award to Honor History Day

National History Day (
http://www.nationalhistoryday.org/ )
is a year-long education program that culminates in an
annual contest in which students present projects in
the form of documentaries, exhibits, performances, or
papers. The NHD program is designed to help teachers
meet education standards and foster students'
enthusiasm for learning.

As part of its program, NHD will present the History
Channel Award for Outstanding Contribution in History
Education. The $3,000 award, sponsored by the History
Channel, will be given to an individual who has made
an outstanding contribution to history education
through service to the National History Day program.

To be eligible, the nominee must be a participant in
the National History Day program and either a teacher,
media  specialist, district or state History Day
coordinator,  judge, or other volunteer. Nominees will
be evaluated on the following criteria: their success
in involving students in the program at the district,
state, and national levels; their service to the
National History Day program at all levels; their
service to the discipline of history in general; and
professional development.

Anyone may propose a nominee for the award. For more
