Two suggestions for you:
Try calling Jim Dow. He teaches History of Photography at Harvard and at
Tufts/School of the Museum of Fine Arts. His number is (617) 484-4624. You
can use my name. He is a friend and former teacher and has about 45,000
slides in his basement.

If that doesn't work, try Maria Umali at the Gilman Paper Company: (212)
246-3300. Although she's in PR, she can put you in touch with several of the
curators who worked on The Waking Dream: First 100 Years of Photography show
that opened at the Met last year and is currently at the National Gallery.
The show had a bunch of Civil War images and probably some of Stoddard's
images -- if he was in Brady's league.

Good luck,
