Ben Fuller asked about "hard" statistics on museum operations. There is
the "Data Report from the 1989 National Museum Survey," published by AAM.
The survey was funded by IMS and others, and is the most comprehensive of
its kind to date. The Report is charts, graphs, tables, etc--data,
basically. A somewhat more user-friendly publication is the public version
of these data, called "Museums Count." This is being printed as we
(electronically) speak, and will be offered for sale at the Seattle
meeting and subsequently through the AAM bookstore: 202-289-9127. No
e-mail order option just yet.
