     As part of the conference of the Canadian Museums Association (CMA)
in Vancouver, BC, from 13 to 18 June 1996, the Technology and Transport
Museums Sector (TTMS) of the CMA will be holding its own meetings on
Saturday 13 June 1996.

     Anybody interested in or connected with technology and transport
museums is invited to attend these meetings.  It is not necessary to be
a member of either the TTMS or the CMA; it is not even necessary to be
registered for the CMA conference.  Anybody who wants to attend the TTMS
meetings is welcome.

     There will actually be two meetings.  The first will be from 10:30
to 12:30 on Saturday 13 June.  This is billed as the policy meeting, where
we will discuss our general concerns which we wish to take to the CMA
board.  From 13:00 to 14:00 representatives of all the CMA special
interest groups will have a lunch meeting with the CMA board at the Robson
Square Conference Centre.

     At 14:30 the TTMS will reconvene in the Canada Place Boardroom for
the business meeting.  This meeting will begin with a r sum  of the
proceedings of the lunch meeting with the CMA board.  What happens then
will possibly reflect the results of the lunch meeting.  However, at some
point it will be necessary to elect the Steering Committee and determine
our priorities for the coming year.

     For example, a perceivedmajor problem is lack of a sense of community
among technology and transport museums.  People from the different
specialities may talk to each other on occasion, but there is not yet a
widespread awareness that most of our problems we have in common and that
we have problems which better staffed and financed human and natural
history museums and art galleries do not have.

     Creating a sense of community will at the very least require better
communication.  Better communication in turn means easier ways of
communication.  In this day and age easier ways of communication mean the
internet and e-mail.  So, if we all had internet accounts we could do such
things as publish our newsletter, called Technogramme, electronically.
Because of the benefits of the internet and e-mail I have drafted a
project for the purpose and am seeking help from CHIN.

     These meetings will be held in the Canada Place Boardroom, which is
suite 1101, 999 Canada Place, Vancouver.  This is the "cruise ship" level,
north end of Canada Place on the west side near food fair retail area.
There is apparently a door there; please ring the doorbell.  The closest
skytrain station is Waterfront.
