Something has been troubling me about this thread and I feel I owe it
to that gnaw in my gut to at least say it.

I'm the one in the workplace (not a museum, but museums are a passion
for me and, when I segue to full-time nonprofit work next year,
museums may be where I look to find my home) who has frequently
coordinated the end of the year celebrations.  They used to be called
the Christmas Party, but I've tried to be careful about the diversity
needs of others (like our Jehovah Witnesses would not attend if you
called it a Christmas Party and our Jewish friends might be offended,
not to mention our atheists).

Many, many are the times I've bent over backwards trying to make sure
each group's needs are met.

However, with that said, I get kinda tired of having to apologize for
my holiday.  And sometimes, when all is said and done, I think there's
a lot of Christmas bashing.

I won't make you celebrate Christmas, I promise.  But please don't
deny me the true pleasure I frequently find in the holidays and
watching the joy of a child remembered.  Albeit they should be
remembered all year through, but only the child inside some grown up
bodies is the one that needs reminding.
